What the PREP involves.

The pursuit and restraint circuit

London Police describe the circuit as four 25 metre rotations, 100 metres in total, done wearing a 4 kg weighted belt and a 4 kg vest.

  • Rotations 1 and 3: a 1.9 metre fence you pull yourself up to look over, stairs, and a 61 cm crawl barrier
  • Rotations 2 and 4: a 1.2 metre fence, stairs and the same crawl barrier
  • A Body Control Simulator, where you push and pull handles to lift a 35.5 kg weight, and an Arm Restraint Simulator, each used after a 50 metre pursuit
  • A final 15 metre drag of a 77 kg mannequin over a resistive mat and around pylons

The 20 metre shuttle run

You run 20 metre lengths timed by a sound. The pace gets faster at every level, and the test ends when you can no longer reach the line in time. Halton and London police list stage 7 as the minimum.

How we train it.

  1. Find your starting point

Your 60 minute assessment tests strength, conditioning, posture, flexibility and body composition (weight, body fat and BMI), with a shuttle run, then sets a plan around your test date.

  2. Practise the circuit

We simulate every part of the circuit: pulling yourself up and over on our adjustable wall (4 to 8 feet), climbing, crawling, pushing and pulling against resistance, and dragging. We train for many different tests, so we simulate every component and make the best use of our space.

  3. Build the shuttle run

Pacing each 20 metre length, turning at the line, and the endurance to hold on as the beeps get faster, coached on our turf lanes.

  4. Build the strength behind it

Strength and conditioning for the fences, the simulators and the drag, with a custom meal plan and app workouts between sessions.

  5. Retest and adjust

Progress checks show where you stand, and your coach adjusts the plan for your stage and for police college after hire.
