What the PIN involves.
Push-ups
Protocols differ for men and women.
Sit and reach
A flexibility test. You get two attempts and the better one counts.
Core endurance
A timed hold, face down, up to a maximum of 3 minutes. Some services, such as Kingston Police, allow a back extension instead.
Aerobic fitness
Options include a 1.5 mile (2.4 km) run, the 20 metre shuttle run, or a submaximal step or treadmill walking test.
Your total score needs to be 75% or better. Standards depend on your age and sex.
Where the PIN fits for OPP applicants
- Early in the process: a physical assessment with the 20 metre shuttle run, where you need level 7 or higher.
- After an offer of employment: the Fitness PIN, where you need 75% at the Provincial Police Academy before moving on to Ontario Police College.
- At Ontario Police College: the PREP, which all recruits must pass.
Municipal and regional services also usually start with the shuttle run. Kingston Police, for example, asks for level 7 before hire, then tests the PIN after hire and before Ontario Police College.

How we train it.
- Score yourself first
Your 60 minute assessment tests strength, conditioning, posture, flexibility and body composition (weight, body fat and BMI), so we know which parts of the PIN will cost you points.
- Build push-up numbers
Strict technique to the standard, then strength and endurance so the reps keep coming.
- Open up your sit and reach
Hamstring, hip and lower back mobility, built into every session and your app routine.
- Hold the core
Core endurance training that builds toward the 3 minute cap.
- Pick and train your aerobic test
We help you choose the aerobic test that suits you and train for it, with practice scoring before test day.
Train your way.
Every format is open to law enforcement applicants and personal training clients.
- 1 on 1: your coach, your plan, from $73 per session
- 1 on 2: train with a partner, from $64 per person per session

What is the PIN test?
The PIN test is the Ontario Police Fitness Award, a provincial fitness program from Police Fitness Personnel of Ontario, sanctioned by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. You need a score of 75% or better to earn the pin, with standards set by age and sex.
What is on the PIN test?
Push-ups, sit and reach, a timed core endurance hold (up to 3 minutes), and an aerobic test. Aerobic options include a 1.5 mile (2.4 km) run, the 20 metre shuttle run, or a submaximal step or treadmill walking test.
When do police applicants take the PIN?
It depends on the service. OPP recruits need 75% on the Fitness PIN at the Provincial Police Academy, after an offer of employment and before Ontario Police College. Kingston Police tests new recruits on the PIN after hire and before Ontario Police College. Check your own service's current process.
What fitness tests does the OPP use?
Early in the process, a physical assessment with the 20 metre shuttle run (level 7 or higher). After an offer, the Fitness PIN at 75% at the Provincial Police Academy. Then the PREP at Ontario Police College, which all recruits must pass.
Is the PIN the same as the PREP?
No. The PIN scores general fitness across push-ups, flexibility, core endurance and aerobic fitness. The PREP is a job task test: a pursuit and restraint circuit plus a 20 metre shuttle run, required to graduate from Ontario Police College, as Kingston Police describes it.
Can I train for the PIN online?
Yes. Custom online coaching runs through our training app with email check-ins every two weeks, and there is a self-guided 12-Week Independent Program for $220 plus HST.
Forever Aesthetic is an independent training provider. We are not affiliated with any police service or Police Fitness Personnel of Ontario and do not run their official assessments. Individual results vary.
